What it takes to have a successful Woman-Owned Business

Not only are women clearly present in the workforce, but many are smashing through the “glass ceiling” and establishing updated and modernized best practices. So, what makes a woman-owned business successful?

Websites, articles, blogs and infographics supply different reasoning techniques on pros and cons of woman-owned businesses. We prefer the line of thought that says a woman succeeds because of the same qualities that makes any businessperson successful: the drive to succeed, an entrepreneurial spirit, and hard work.

Strategies of Successful Women*

What separates entrepreneurial women from their counterparts and what qualities do they possess that nurture their success?

·       Empower themselves. Know and be true to their own strengths and weaknesses, and never be afraid to play to their best qualities.

·       Own their destiny by setting their own definition of success. They push boundaries.

·       Be the architect of their careers. Network, network, network.

·       Self-Advocacy. Successful women are often unashamed to advocate for themselves. Not only does it help them succeed, but it conveys confidence to their colleagues and to themselves.

·       Translate stories to numbers. Finances were considered part of the “man’s world” for so long it is incredibly important for women business owners to understand and speak confidently on how their company is doing financially. Investors want to hear numbers.

·       Build exceptional teams. As important as ever in the tech-climate of business today, team building is an essential skill that is often viewed as a “natural trait” of many women.

·       Be brave. Give back to the community. Turn possibilities into actualities.

Since 2019, The Millennium Group has successfully met and exceeded the standards of what it means to be a Woman-Owned Business as outlined by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). TMG is proud to be certified in an effort to promote diversity in the workplace and to engage in business and partnership as a diverse supplier and with other diverse suppliers. In order to qualify for certification, a business must demonstrate proof that a woman has unrestricted control of the business and day-to-day operations; a woman must hold the highest defined title in the company; documented evidence of capital contribution from a woman; and more.

This pride in TMG’s ownership comes from both our marked success under Ms. Murphy’s leadership as well as the social and economic implications that stem from women-ownership. TMG has been a steadfast leader in the outsourcing and mail services industry for nearly four decades, in large part thanks to Ms. Murphy’s exceptional management style, industry skills, and her strong will to persevere in an industry full of male leaders.

Leadership can be marked by someone’s ability to inspire a group to achieve common goals. This is possible through effective communication, a genuine desire to help each other, and a sustainable support system. On behalf of everyone at TMG we’d like to offer our thanks to Leticia Murphy as well as all of other woman leaders throughout the company. You are all Where Service Matters!
